Rather than leaving those wires exposed, you can create a fitted shell to keep them held in place and protected from the elements. Let's say you've just popped a fresh bag of popcorn for movie night, but can't find a good bowl to keep it in. A regular dinner bowl is usually too small for a full bag of popcorn, but you can't seem to track down a well-sized bowl to fit all of it. If you frequently find yourself lacking in good snack-handling options, then rather than spending an hour browsing at a store, why not make the perfect bowl yourself? According to Doda, putting up a live tree in the center of town is a relatively new idea that began in December 2021 when a large Christmas tree was purchased as part of Chester’s 300th anniversary celebration in 2022. “It was so nice and we thought it would be nice to have one every year, but trees are expensive,” she said. Because the town doesn’t want to use tax dollars to buy a tree each year, Doda said it’s relying on generous residents to donate one instead. “It’s nice to have and you can drive by and look at it. It’s a very generous gift from a resident,” she said. Doda said this isn’t the first time that a tree has been the target of criticism. She recalled how some residents complained about the size of another tree two years ago. “I think it’s too bad. Maybe those people should donate a tree next year,” she said. But the tree, which sits just outside the Chester Public Library, is getting lots of love from library staff and others who have noticed it in recent days. “I love that we have the tree. I think it’s a beautiful gesture,” Library Director Kandace Knowlton said. Library aide Melody Roy is also appreciative of the tree and all that it symbolizes this time of year. “It’s nice to have something out there,” she said. Shawn Patrick Ouellette/Staff Photographer A Standish man accused of killing his girlfriend is headed to trial next week, and prosecutors plan to challenge his version of events with a reconstruction of the shooting. Brandon Libby, 37, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Amanda Brown, whom police found dead in their home in 2021. Libby pleaded not guilty that fall. He rejected a plea offer from the Office of the Maine Attorney General in June, which would have capped his sentence at 42 years. Police responded to a call on June 16, 2021, and forced their way into the couple’s Standish home, where they found Brown, 29, who had been shot in the stomach and killed. Police found Libby barricaded in a home about 14 miles away in North Waterboro before convincing him to come out and talk. It wasn’t until after he was indicted by a grand jury in November 2021 that he was taken to the Cumberland County Jail, where he has spent three years waiting for trial. Libby is scheduled for trial Dec. 4. In excerpts of a police interview that prosecutors played in court during a pretrial hearing Tuesday, Libby could be heard saying that Brown pointed the gun at him first. He suggested that the gun went off after he tried pushing it out of her hand. Larry Rose, a Maine State Police sergeant who said he reconstructed the shooting, said in court that he reviewed Brown’s autopsy report, police reports and videos of the home where Brown was found. Gunshot markings on Brown’s clothing suggest that the gun was fired at extremely close range, with the muzzle against her shirt, Rose said. An employee from the Maine State Police crime lab tried replicating those markings by firing guns at varying distances, Rose said, but it only worked when the gun was in close contact. Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Liam Funte helped Rose determine the trajectory of the bullet, from its entry point in Brown’s stomach to where it stopped in her back, Rose said. Rose even demonstrated for Superior Justice Thomas McKeon how he believes the gun was fired, using a small plastic blue gun on Maine State Police detective Justin Huntley, who stood in Brown’s place. The sergeant said his theory was peer-reviewed. He also said the plastic gun was similar to the one used to shoot Brown. Rose also demonstrated for McKeon what Libby said happened. But the officer said it would have been “difficult” for the gun to go off the same way, according to Libby’s version. “It doesn’t get to the angle that it needs to be,” Rose said, theatrically pretending to knock the gun from Huntley’s hand. Libby attorney Matthew Crockett said in an email Tuesday that Libby’s legal team had no response to Rose’s testimony but “look(s) forward to presenting our defense next week.” Libby’s lawyers previously opposed the state’s plans to show Rose’s reconstruction, but they withdrew that objection Tuesday. Earlier this year, Libby tried to prevent the use of several statements he made to police while they were bringing him to a hospital, after he had been bitten by one of their K-9s in North Waterboro. Although Libby’s statements were made before police read him his Miranda rights, Superior Justice MaryGay Kennedy agreed that the statements were fair game for the state because police told him repeatedly he didn’t have to talk with them. Ange Postecoglou was booed by furious Tottenham fans as the manager confronted the away end after the 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League . Tottenham were outplayed at the Vitality Stadium and fell to 10th in the table - with the 4-0 victory at Manchester City their only win in the last six games in all competitions. Postecoglou went to applaud the away end at full-time but was then involved in an exchange with Spurs supporters. The Australian nodded his head and pointed to his chest, appearing to ask “me?” before raising his thumb. Postecoglou said he received some “pretty direct feedback”, which he said could not repeat, but added that he did not like what he heard. When asked about what happened at full-time, the manager said: “They are disappointed, rightly so. They gave me some direct feedback which I guess is taken on board.” Asked what was said, Postecoglou added: “Probably not for here, mate. He continued: “I’ve got no issue with it. I didn’t like what was being said because I’m a human being. But you’ve got to cop it. I’ve been around long enough to know that if things don’t go well, you’ve got to understand the frustration and disappointment. They’re right to be disappointed tonight because again we’ve let a game of football get away from us. That’s ok, I’m ok with all of that.” Tottenham go to high-flying Chelsea on Sunday and also play Manchester United in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup and host Premier League leaders Liverpool before Christmas. Spurs have been hampered by injuries, particularly in defence, with Postecoglou also losing Ben Davies to a hamstring injury during the defeat at Bournemouth. Spurs conceded another goal from a set-piece as Dean Huijsen was left unmarked at the back post to score the only goal of the game. Bournemouth had enough chances to increase their lead as Postecoglou criticised his team for continuing to “make things difficult for ourselves” and “shoot ourselves in the foot”. "It is not good enough,” Postecoglou said. “We again fell into the trap of starting the game really well, we were in control and then we conceded a really poor goal. "Then we kind of lost our way a little bit and allowed Bournemouth to play the game that they wanted to. We had our moments in the second half but we could not get a goal. "I don’t know if they had more urgency but we have this sort of propensity to shoot ourselves in the foot when we should be controlling games. They are hard to beat here and what you should not do is give them a goal that gives them the momentum they need. "We started to play with a bit more conviction at the beginning of the second half and made some good chances. Again we made things difficult for ourselves by allowing the opposition to take the game in the direction that they want. "They are all big games coming up. We have to get ourselves out of the space we are in at the minute where we can’t get a real grip on the season." On Davies’ injury, which could leave Tottenham with one fit centre-back for the trip to Chelsea, Postecoglou said: “It looks like he's done his hamstring. Him and Radu [Dragusin] have played every game. It's the one position we can't rotate. He'll obviously be out for a period of time now, we'll just have to wait and see how long it is. It's a consequence of having the squad we have at the moment.” Postecoglou finished with a message to the Spurs fans and said: “All I can say is I’m really disappointed with tonight and I’m determined to get it right and I’ll keep fighting until we do.”
