EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New York Giants organization got exactly what it deserved in getting blown out by Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Giants were embarrassed in , taunted by Mayfield after a touchdown run just before halftime. And then they saw their fans walk out on them again when the Bucs extended their lead to 30-0 and sent New York (2-9) to its sixth straight loss. The losing streak is the longest for the Giants since 2019, when they dropped a franchise-record nine straight games to finish 4-12. That led to the firing of coach Pat Shurmur after two seasons. Third-year coach Brian Daboll is clearly in trouble, with the Giants guaranteed a second straight losing season. They were 6-11 in a 2023 season that featured a lot of injuries. Daboll, who denies he has lost the team, isn’t the only one whose job is in jeopardy. General manager Joe Schoen is on the hot seat and so is this entire franchise, which is celebrating its 100th year. It’s one thing to lose. It’s quite another to give up, and that’s what the organization did when it decided to bench Daniel Jones a week ago and then release him on Friday after the 27-year-old asked co-owner John Mara to let him walk away. While he wasn’t playing well, Jones was the Giants’ best quarterback. He gave them more a of chance to win than either Tommy DeVito or Drew Lock. Removing him from the picture was all but certain to make the Giants worse, even if it was a good business decision. If Jones was hurt and unable the pass his physical before the 2025 season, the team would have been on the hook for a $23 million cap hit. The problem is the players care about now. By getting rid of Jones and elevating DeVito to the starting role, the front office was telling the team it didn’t care about winning with seven games left in the season. So the players gave a lackluster effort. Defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence called the team soft. Rookie receiver Malik Nabers said he was sick of losing. Left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor said he saw a lack of effort by some players. What they all were saying was they were angry at being betrayed. Money is never more important than winning, and the Giants made that mistake. What’s working At this point in the season? Nothing. What needs help The offense once again. The Giants have scored a league-low 163 points, including only 60 in six games at MetLife Stadium, where they are winless this season. They have scored in double figures at home twice. Daboll’s team has been held scoreless in the first half in three of 11 games and it has been held without a first-half touchdown seven times. Daboll said he will continue to call the offensive plays. Stock up S Tyler Nubin. The rookie has had a team-high 12 tackles in each of the last two games. His 81 tackles for the season are just two behind team leader Bobby Okereke. Stock down RB Tyrone Tracy. The rookie leads Giants running backs with 587 yards on 116 carries — a 5.1-yard average for the fifth-round pick. But holding onto the ball has been a big issue. Tracy’s fumble in overtime cost New York a chance to win in Germany against Carolina. He also lost the ball in the third quarter at the Bucs 5-yard line with New York down 23-0. It earned him a seat on the bench. Injuries LT Jermaine Eluemunor (quad) and OLB Azeez Ojulari (toe) left Sunday’s game in the first quarter. Chris Hubbard filled in at tackle and the Giants luckily got back DL Kayvon Thibodeaux this past week after he missed five games with a broken wrist. DeVito was banged up but Daboll expects him to start against the Cowboys. Key numbers 10 — The Giants have gone 10 consecutive games without an interception, tying the NFL record held by the 1976-77 San Francisco 49ers and the 2017 Oakland — now Las Vegas — Raiders. (Elizabeth Whitte/CBC) A Mount Pearl baker is stirring up chocolate and printing unique sweet treats — literally — with a helping hand from technology. Over the buzz of a 3D printer, Jennifer Barrett, owner of Snow Owl Bakeshop, is busy with a spool of plastic she's about to use to create a mold for her creations. She moves to a block of chocolate, with images of a Christmas tree, a stocking, a wrapped president and an owl in a scarf. "This is the fun part," she said, before snapping the chocolate into four even pieces. Barrett began using 3D printers to create custom chocolate designs for her clients. The printer creates the mold and Barrett pours in the melted chocolate. Then it's all set aside to cool. "It's just a unique thing. You can't just go in a shop and buy it yourself," she said. "It would be very difficult to mass produce something like that on your own if you didn't have a background working in chocolate or have the tools to do it." How it works Going from a design concept to a piece of chocolate requires a number of steps, said Barrett. First, she draws a design and then uses software to translate it into a digital image that the 3D printer can understand to make a mold. "Because that isn't strong enough material to withstand the heat and pressure from the vacuum form machine, I made a silicone mold, which is a reverse image and then filled that with plaster," she said. Barrett says she can make unique and custom chocolates that people can't buy anywhere else. Once that's done, Barrett heads back to her kitchen and fills the new mold with chocolate. It’s a sight to see and the CBC’s Elizabeth Whitten got an up close view, and even a taste. It's a lot of steps to get the finished product. But, she said, she doesn't do it all at once. "I break it all out and make a plan and I don't do it all in one day. It's the kind of thing that takes several days to do," said Barrett. Mixing art with baking Barrett is a trained artist who also studied baking in Toronto. She has worked at a number of bakeries and a chocolate shop. "This is kind of my way of using those two together," she said. It was only a few months ago when she decided to go all in on Snowy Owl Bakeshop. Her menu consists of sourdough, chocolates, caramels as well as truffles and a variety of pastries and cookies. Before using a 3D printer, Barrett was making clay sculptures and turning them into molds. (Elizabeth Whitten/CBC) She's now at the St. John's Farmers' Market, but also has a presence on Facebook and Instagram, where she can take orders. One day, she said, she'd like to have her own shop. Before using the 3D printer, Barrett said, she made clay sculptures and turned them into molds. Her basement office is filled with old casts for holiday chocolates, like smiling pumpkins, a grinning skull, a cheery ghost and birds. It was when her partner bought a 3D printer that she saw it as another way to make her molds. She started with "love birds," which feature puffins, crows, ducks and seagulls in the shape of hearts. Then a few months ago, Barrett was approached at the farmers' market and was asked if she could do custom orders. "We went back and forth and then I was able to figure out the pricing based on how much she wanted and the timeline and things like that." He entered the coaching ranks before the age of 30 as he spent five seasons as an assistant with the Atlanta Hawks and one with the Milwaukee Bucks prior to joining the Grizzlies. Even before that, He joined Memphis at the young age of 34. On Wednesday, Memphis was able to defeat the Philadelphia 76ers by the score of 117-111. With the victory by the Grizzlies, Jenkins became the franchise leader in wins by a head coach. Jenkins Sets Grizzlies Coaching Record At Just 40 Years Old Jenkins Is Now The Franchise Leader In Career Wins Last night’s victory pushed the Grizzlies record to 9-7 thus far on the season. It also gave Taylor Jenkins his 215th win as a head coach for Memphis which is the new all-time record for the Grizzlies. Those 215 wins surpassed the previous record holder’s total of 214. Those 214 wins were accomplished by Lionel Hollins . Hollins was the head coach for the Grizzlies for much of the “Grit and Grind” era. He was the head coach from 2008-09 to 2012-13 (also was interim coach for the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1999-00). Jenkins commented after the victory, and he clearly took great pride in becoming the Grizzlies new franchise leader in coaching wins. “It’s an unbelievable honor to be among the company of so many great coaches that have come before me,” Jenkins said . “I always talk about the unbelievable responsibility to be the coach of this franchise. It’s a privilege and an honor.” The Grizzlies inaugural season was in 1995-96, so they are currently taking part in their 30th season in the NBA. They played in Vancouver for the first six seasons before moving to Memphis beginning in the 2001-02 season. Jenkins and Hollins are two of the three head coaches in Grizzlies history to reach triple-digits in wins for the team. The other is Dave Joerger, who resided over the team from 2013-14 to 2015-16. Jenkins Has Career Winning Percentage Of .528 Thus Far In the 2021-22 season, Jenkins helped guide the Grizzlies to a 56-26 record. That tied the franchise record for best in team history along with 2012-13. Memphis reached the second round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs, losing to the Golden State Warriors . Under Jenkins, they also reached the 2021 and 2023 postseason losing in the opening round. Last season was a disappointing one for Memphis as they finished with just a 27-55 record. It was the team’s worst record since they went 22-60 in the 2017-18 season. The Grizzlies dealt with a boatload of injuries in 2023-24 which was a major reason for their downfall. Star point guard Ja Morant began the season suspended, and then came back to play just nine game before missing the rest of the season with injury. Desmond Bane missed 40 games, Jaren Jackson Jr. missed 16, Marcus Smart missed 62, and Luke Kennard missed 43. Despite finishing 28 games under .500, Taylor Jenkins’ career record is still a winning one. He currently sit with a record of 215-192, good for a .528 winning percentage. In the postseason, Jenkins has a record of 9-14.
