sport betting codes ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Michigan gave athletic director Warde Manuel a five-year contract extension Thursday on the heels of the Wolverines' upset over rival Ohio State and a strong start to the basketball season. Manuel, who has held the position since 2016, signed through June 30, 2030, the school announced. Manuel is also chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee. “During Warde’s tenure as director, Athletics has put a structure in place where our student-athletes compete for Big Ten and national championships, excel in the classroom, and proudly graduate with their University of Michigan degrees,” university President Santa J. Ono said in the announcement. Michigan had a disappointing football season, finishing 7-5 (5-4 Big Ten), but a 13-10 win over then-No. 2 Ohio State took some pressure off of the program. The Buckeyes were favored by 21 points, the widest point spread for the rivalry since 1978, according to ESPN Stats and Info. The Wolverines won the national championship last year in their final season led by coach Jim Harbaugh, whose tenure at the school involved multiple NCAA investigations for recruiting and sign-stealing allegations. Manuel supported Harbaugh through those processes. In basketball, the women's team made its season debut (No. 23) in the AP Top 25 this week. The men are 7-1 a season after firing coach Juwan Howard, who lost a school-record 24 games in 2023-24 as Michigan plummeted to a last-place finish in the Big Ten for the first time since 1967. Michigan has won 52 Big Ten championships since 2020. “Every day, I am thankful to work at this great institution and to represent Michigan Athletics," Manuel said in a statement. "I especially want to thank the student-athletes, coaches and staff who compete for each of our teams and who have helped us achieve unparalleled success athletically and academically. I am excited to continue giving back to a university that has provided me with so much over my career.” Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . The new, 12-team College Football Playoff brings with it a promise to be bigger, more exciting, more lucrative. Perfect or 100% fair? Well, nobody ever believed that. The first expanded playoff bracket unveiled Sunday left a presumably deserving Alabama team on the sideline in favor of an SMU squad that finished with a better record after playing a schedule that was not as difficult. It ranked undefeated Oregon first but set up a possible rematch against Ohio State, the team that came closest to beating the Ducks this year. It treated underdog Boise State like a favorite and banged-up Georgia like a world beater at No. 2. It gave Ohio State home-field advantage against Tennessee for reasons it would take a supercomputer to figure out. It gave the sport the multiweek tournament it has longed for, but also ensured there will be plenty to grouse about between now and when the trophy is handed out on Jan. 20 after what will easily be the longest college football season in history. All of it, thankfully, will be sorted out on the field starting with first-round games on campuses Dec. 20 and 21, then over three succeeding rounds that will wind their way through traditional bowl sites. Maybe Oregon coach Dan Lanning, whose undefeated Ducks are the favorite to win it all, put it best when he offered: "Winning a national championship is not supposed to be easy.” Neither, it turns out, is figuring out who should play for it. The Big Ten will lead the way with four teams in the tournament, followed by the SEC with three and the ACC with two. The lasting memory from the inaugural bracket will involve the decision that handed the ACC that second bid. Alabama of the SEC didn't play Saturday. SMU of the ACC did. The Mustangs fell behind by three touchdowns to Clemson before coming back to tie. But they ultimately lost 34-31 on a 56-yard field goal as time expired. “We were on pins and needles,” SMU coach Rhett Lashley said. “Until we saw the name ‘SMU’ up there, we were hanging on the edge. We're really, really happy and thankful to the committee for rewarding our guys for their total body of work." The Mustangs only had two losses, compared to three for the Crimson Tide. Even though SMU's schedule wasn't nearly as tough, the committee was impressed by the way the Mustangs came back against Clemson. “We just felt, in this particular case, SMU had the nod above Alabama,” said Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel, the chairman of the selection committee. “But it’s no disrespect to Alabama’s strength of schedule. We looked at the entire body of work for both teams.” Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne was gracious, up to a point. “Disappointed with the outcome and felt we were one of the 12 best teams in the country,” he said on social media. He acknowledged — despite all of Alabama’s losses coming against conference opponents this season — that the Tide’s push to schedule more games against teams from other major conferences in order to improve its strength of schedule did not pay off this time. “That is not good for college football," Byrne said. Georgia, the SEC champion, was seeded second; Boise State, the Mountain West champion, earned the third seed; and Big 12 titlist Arizona State got the fourth seed and the fourth and final first-round bye. All will play in quarterfinals at bowl games on Dec. 31-Jan. 1. Clemson stole a bid and the 12th seed with its crazy win over SMU, the result that ultimately cost Alabama a spot in the field. The Tigers moved to No. 16 in the rankings, but got in as the fifth-best conference winner. The conference commissioners' idea to give conference champions preferable treatment in this first iteration of the 12-team playoff could be up for reconsideration after this season. The committee actually ranked Boise State, the Mountain West Champion, at No. 9 and Big 12 champion Arizona State at No. 12, but both get to skip the first round. Another CFP guideline: There’s no reseeding of teams after each round, which means no break for Oregon. The top-seeded Ducks will face the winner of Tennessee-Ohio State in the Rose Bowl. Oregon beat Ohio State 32-31 earlier this year in one of the season’s best games. No. 12 Clemson at No. 5 Texas, Dec. 21. Clemson is riding high after the SMU upset, while Texas is 0-2 against Georgia and 11-0 vs. everyone else this season. The winner faces ... Arizona State in the Peach Bowl. Huh? No. 11 SMU at No. 6 Penn State, Dec. 21. The biggest knock against the Mustangs was that they didn't play any big boys with that 60th-ranked strength of schedule. Well, now they get to. The winner faces ... Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Yes, SMU vs. Boise was the quarterfinal we all expected. No. 10 Indiana at No. 7 Notre Dame, Dec. 20. Hoosiers coach Curt Cignetti thought his team deserved a home game. Well, not quite but close. The winner faces ... Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The Bulldogs got the No. 2 seed despite a throwing-arm injury to QB Carson Beck. But what else was the committee supposed to do? No. 9 Tennessee at No. 8 Ohio State , Dec. 21. The Buckeyes (losses to Oregon, Michigan) got home field over the Volunteers (losses to Arkansas, Georgia) in a matchup of programs with two of the biggest stadiums in football. The winner faces ... Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Feels like that matchup should come in the semifinals or later. Get poll alerts and updates on the AP Top 25 throughout the season. Sign up here . Rademacher, who played Jasper “Jax” Jacks on the daytime drama for 25 years on and off, was fired in 2021 when he refused to follow the show’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. He sued the soap later that year claiming that he was fired because of his political views and not just the mandate. “I am entitled to a religious exemption against mandatory vaccination for COVID-19 on the basis of my deeply and sincerely held moral belief that my body is endowed by my creator with natural processes to protect me and that its natural integrity cannot ethically be violated by the administration of artificially created copies of genetic material, foreign to nature and experimental,” the actor wrote in an e-mail to Disney HR before his firing, according to Variety . Rademacher lost the initial suit in 2023 when a judge found that because General Hospital also fired Burton, who plays Jason Morgan in the series, this proved the decision was about the health mandate. Rademacher is resurrecting the suit now because Burton was rehired on the series in January 2024. Jason made his official reappearance in March of that year. In Radaemacher’s motion for a new trial, obtained by InTouch , his lawyer argues, “ABC’s re-hiring of Mr. Burton undermines its argument that Ingo’s political beliefs did not play any role in its decision to fire him—to ‘recast’ his role—in 2021...Judge Goorvitch credited ABC’s evidence that the political animus that the General Hospital producers showed toward Ingo was irrelevant because, like other people, including GH actor Steve Burton, it simply could not accommodate Ingo’s objection to COVID-19 vaccination and fired him only for that reason. “That argument was always specious. But it carries even less weight now, given the newly discovered evidence that ABC re-hired [Steve] for General Hospital but did not re-hire Ingo,” his lawyer continued. The documents also claim that GH will never rehire Rademacher because of his outspoken support for Donald Trump during the 2020 election. He hopes to get a new trial and a jury to evaluate his wrongful termination claim. A judgment on the motion is expected in the new year. Rademacher has opened up about how being let go from the show has affected him, sharing on Instagram in November 2023 that he’s been struggling with mental health issues since leaving the series. “To be completely honest, for the first time in my life, I’ve been faced with some mental health struggles. That’s not something I’ve ever had to face before. I’m a lot better now, but the first year was rough,” he said at the time . “On top of that, I really identified as my character on General Hospital for decades, and I could’ve been there and would’ve been there for many more decades to come,” he continued. “This isn’t a boo-hoo me post, it’s just honest. It’s where I’m at.” More Headlines:

Syria’s ousted president Bashar al-Assad and his family are in Moscow, a Kremlin source told Russian news agencies, hours after he fled the country as Islamist-led rebels entered Damascus. The announcement comes as Russia, a key Assad ally, called for an emergency meeting of the UN security council on the fast-changing situation on the ground in the war-torn country. “Assad and members of his family have arrived in Moscow,” the source told the TASS and Ria Novosti news agencies. “Russia granted them asylum on humanitarian grounds,” he added. Asked whether Assad was confirmed to be in Moscow, a Western official said they believed that was likely the case and had no reason to doubt Moscow’s claim. The Kremlin source also said the rebels who ousted Assad in a lightning offensive “guaranteed the security of Russian army bases and diplomatic institutions on Syria’s territory”. Russia, Assad’s biggest backer along with Iran, holds a naval base in Tartus and a military airfield in Khmeimim. Moscow’s forces became militarily involved in the Syrian conflict in 2015, providing support for Assad’s forces to crush the opposition in the bloody civil war. “Russia has always been in favour of a political solution to the Syrian crisis. Our starting point is the need to resume negotiations under the auspices of the UN,” the Kremlin source added. A Russian representative to the United Nations announced that Moscow had requested an emergency closed-door meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria for Monday afternoon. “The consequences (of the events in Syria) for this country and the whole region have not yet been measured,” the official said on Telegram. Ange Postecoglou knows the next month will be “significant” for Tottenham, but is confident they will improve and not be mid-table at Christmas. Spurs travel to Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday reeling from a disappointing home loss to Ipswich before the international break. The club’s problems have multiplied during the past fortnight with midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur handed a seven-match domestic ban on Monday and Cristian Romero (toe) joining a lengthy list of absentees. However, Postecoglou remains bullish about Tottenham’s progress and acutely aware of the scrutiny set to come his way if they stay 10th. “Christmas is a joyous occasion, irrespective, and I think it should be celebrated. If we’re still 10th then people won’t be happy, I won’t be happy, but we might not be 10th,” Postecoglou pointed out before nine games in 30 days. “Certainly for us I think it’s a significant period because you look at those games and we’ve got the league where we’ve got to improve our position and a couple of important European fixtures that can set us up for the back half of the year, also a Carabao Cup quarter-final. “At the end of that period we could be in a decent position for a strong second half of the year, so for us it is an important period. “You know there’s no more international breaks, so the full focus is here. You can build some momentum through that, or if things don’t go well you could get yourself into a bit of a grind. “Of course if we had beaten Ipswich, we’d be third and I reckon this press conference would be much different wouldn’t it? “I’m not going to let my life be dictated by one result, I’m sorry. I take a wider perspective on these things because I know how fickle it can be, but we need to address our position for sure. “And if we’re 10th at Christmas, yeah it won’t be great. There’d be a lot of scrutiny and probably a lot of scrutiny around me, which is fair enough, but that’s not where I plan for us to be.” Tottenham’s immediate efforts to move up the table will require them ending City’s two-year unbeaten home run in the Premier League. The champions have lost their last four matches in all competitions, but have some key personnel back for Saturday’s clash and will aim to toast Pep Guardiola’s new contract with a victory. Postecoglou was pleased to see Guardiola commit to a further two seasons in England, adding: “I love the fact that there’s a massive target out there that can seem insurmountable. “I look at it the other way. I go, ‘imagine if you knock him off, that’d be something’. “I’m at the stage of my life where I’d rather have the chance of knocking him off than missing that opportunity. “When greatness is around, you want to be around it. And hopefully it challenges you to be like that as well.” Saturday’s fixture will be Postecoglou’s 50th league game in charge of Spurs and he knows what is required to bring up three figures. “I took over a club that finished eighth,” Postecoglou said. “No European football, significant player turnover, change of playing style. Where did I think we’d be after 50 games? God knows. “It could have been a whole lot worse, but when you look at it in the current prism of we’re 10th, you’re going ‘it doesn’t look good’ and I understand that and we have to improve that. “But over the 50 games, I think there’s enough there that shows we are progressing as a team and we are developing into the team we want. “The key is the next 50 games, if they can be in totality better than the first 50? First, that means I’m here but second, I think we’ll be in a good space.”Osobor, Diallo lead Washington in 90-53 rout of NJIT in final nonconference tune-upAt the top of a twisting driveway, the Crafty Distillery enjoys a glorious view of the Galloway landscape. Situated just outside Newton Stewart, it is best known for its gin production but has branched out more recently into vodka and whisky. Its products are already stocked in a number of major supermarkets and hundreds of independent retailers but the company now has plans to expand. Founder and managing director Graham Taylor said it could allow them to increase production, hire more staff and boost turnover signficantly. The story of the distillery goes back to 2014 when Graham was working abroad but was keen to move back to the area where he grew up and start a business. "I was working in the design industry, but I had an interest in spirits," he explained. "I guess my dad was a whisky fan and both me and my brother got into drinking whisky over the years." He spotted a distillery for sale in the area but could not afford to buy it so, instead, ended up finding a site where they could build their own. They started building in 2016 and completed it early the following year. And when it came to developing their first gin, it was inspired by their surroundings. "First and foremost, we are a Galloway distillery," said Graham. "You've got Cairnsmore of Fleet in front of you, you look up to the Merrick, you've got the history and we've got this absolute bounty of botanicals. "So when we went to develop our first product, which was the Hills and Harbour gin we wanted to capture some of that." So from the hills they took noble fir - and seaweed from the coastline - to give it its distinctive flavour. Only recently have they branched out into whisky and they are working with a farmer in nearby Port William to look at growing local barley. Now the company, with a staff of 12, has gone as far as it can with the current facilities and has plans to expand. "We've really maxed out the production in here," Graham explained. At present they produce "only" 10,000 pure litres a year for their whisky but the new facilities could allow them to go up to 100,000 with the potential to reach 200,000. It would also let them double white spirit production as well. "We've grown roughly between kind of 10% and 20% every year for the last five years," he said. "We've done it in almost, you could say, in quite a traditional fashion. "We only invest and we only grow when we can afford to, because we don't work with banks in the sense that we don't have investors, we don't have bank loans at the moment." They have just launched their first crowd funder to look to get more local investment because Graham said they were at a point where they really hoped to "scale this up" and be able to take on more staff. "Last year we had £1.1m turnover and almost in its entirety that has come from white spirit," he said. "So what we're looking to do is double that revenue for the business, so we're looking to get that to £2.2m in the next few years. "That means producing, roughly, about 100,000 bottles a year." In the process, they hope to "help put Galloway on the map" and be able to take on more staff. "The main story I guess here from my perspective is that we're at that point where we've had a really good solid seven or eight years of growth," said Graham. "We really want to double down and cement our commitment to the region, the existing staff and the future potential. "To do that, we really need to try and expand in operations." Dumfries and Galloway Council has just approved the expansion of the site with a new production and visitor facility. Graham said the best part of running a business in Galloway was also one of its most challenging aspects. "You're only two hours from Glasgow - in some ways we are actually easy to get to, but, in a lot of people's minds, we're quite remote," he said. "We really need more people to come and enjoy it. "This is an absolutely magical place, and there's tons of opportunities here - you just have to find them."

Trzaskowski previously ran in the Polish presidential election in 2020, when he narrowly fell short of defeating Andrzej Duda in a run-off. On Saturday, he said the support of party members gives him energy, determination and courage to win the presidential election, where his main rival will be the candidate from the nationalist conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party. Sikorski offered his support for Trzaskowski following the announcement of the results: “You hit the bull’s eye with your idea of the primaries. We have mobilized our party with it.” The exact date of the presidential election has not yet been set. PiS plans to announce the choice of its candidate at a meeting in Kraków on Sunday. Incumbent Duda, a member of PiS, is term-limited after having served as the country’s president since 2015. The youthful-looking Trzaskowski has been the mayor of Warsaw since 2018. Before that, the political scientist, who studied at Oxford and speaks five foreign languages, was a member of the European Parliament. Copy 24/11/2024 10

The college football recruiting world is still abuzz with the shocking news of five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood's flip from LSU to Michigan. The news put even more heat on Tigers head coach Brian Kelly, who is having a disastrous month of November . For first-year head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines, though, Underwood is a huge pickup for the 2025 recruiting class. Not to mention, this is one of the first big flips Moore can call fully his own—most of Michigan's 2024 class committed under former coach Jim Harbaugh. Why did Underwood ultimately flip? There are various reports about Michigan's NIL collective, called Champions Circle, which is said to be at the heart of the flip. Let's take a look at the big names involved in the Champions Circle, who was involved in Underwood's flip, and what it could mean for Michigan's recruiting future. NCAAF HQ: Live NCAAF scores | Updated NCAAF standings | Full NCAAF schedule Bryce Underwood NIL money details Underwood's flip isn't exactly coming cheap. According to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodds, the rumored deal from Michigan is around $10 million . The New York Post reported the exact figure to be $10.5 million. According to The Advocate , LSU's NIL deal offer to Underwood was around $1.5 million. As far as the people responsible for the flip, Moore deserves a lot of credit. Per CBS Sports' Matt Zenitz , Underwood took a secret visit to Ann Arbor on Monday and Tuesday, where he shadowed Moore at practice, sat in on meetings and learned more about Michigan overall. Zenitz adds that Underwood developed a relationship with former Wolverines star and future NFL Hall of Famer Tom Brady, which also contributed to the flip. One other organization that apparently was crucial in pulling this off: Michigan NIL collective Champions Circle. Some of the big names involved with the collective include Michigan booster Nate Forbes — managing partner of The Forbes Company — as well as boosters Jolin and Larry Ellison. The Champions Circle released a statement following Underwood's commitment naming all three people: Welcome Bryce Underwood, the #1 Recruit in the Nation We want to thank our Founding Members and others associated with Champions Circle who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make it possible to continue our work building championship teams at Michigan. Founding Member and Chairman, Nate Forbes, said: “We are very excited to keep Bryce home in Michigan as he continues to build his legacy. I want to personally thank Jolin and Larry Ellison who were instrumental in making this happen by providing Champions Circle with invaluable guidance and financial resources.” We encourage all parties who have publicly expressed interest in assisting Michigan’s NIL’s efforts to join the 11,000 individuals who have contributed to Champions Circle. For any fan wishing to support our efforts to keep Michigan the Leaders and Best, please contribute through our “Those Who Stay (Home)...” fundraising campaign. Larry Ellison is a billionaire and co-founder of Oracle. He's reportedly the second-richest man in the world. Although he is originally from New York and grew up in Chicago, he apparently was instrumental in Underwood's flip. It's unclear of his connection to the school other than the recent recruitment of Underwood. (Note: At this time, the identity of Jolin is unclear.) One other name reportedly involved is Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports. Although it's unclear if he was involved financially in any way, the Michigan alumnus stated he spoke with Underwood and his family during the process. "Everyone's like 'Dave, how much were you involved?' Listen, there are a lot of other factors. ... Was I involved in a call with the family? Are they lovely people? Did we pitch a plan? Of course, we did," Portnoy said . What is Champions Circle? Champions Circle is Michigan's NIL collective, which assists athletes across all sports for the Wolverines. Here's what the collective's "Who We Are" page reads : Champions Circle® is a community of fans, alumni, and supporters whose goal is empowering University of Michigan student-athletes to be the leaders and best through name, image, and likeness. Champions Circle® is committed to operating within the NCAA and university guidelines, to ensure Michigan remains at the forefront of college athletics. Champions Circle® partners with Valiant Management Group (VMG) to hold our NIL events and help with fundraising and marketing activities. There are numerous board members also listed on the website, including Forbes. According to a list of top NIL collectives put together by On3Sports , Champions Circle is 13th nationally. Per On3, each collective included were estimated to spend over $200 million this year. Larry Ellison net worth Ellison co-founded the Oracle Corporation, a multinational computer technology company, in 1979. According to Forbes, his net worth is right around $235.3 billion—yes, that's billion, with a b. Forbes lists Ellison second on their list of billionaires behind Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX founder. Dave Portnoy net worth Portnoy, who founded Barstool Sports in 2004, has a reported net worth of around $150 million. What Underwood's flip means for Michigan In Michigan's first season without Jim Harbaugh, it's no secret that the Wolverines have struggled at quarterback. Michigan has gone back and forth between Davis Warren and Jack Tuttle. With just two games left against Northwestern and Ohio State, the Wolverines are not yet bowl eligible with just five wins. As Sporting News' Bill Bender notes , Underwood is Michigan's the highest-rated highest-ranked quarterback per 247Sports, and is just the fifth five-star signal-caller the Wolverines have recruited since 2005. The last two were Chad Henne in 2005 and Ryan Mallett in 2007. Regardless of how the deal was done, this is a ginormous recruiting win for Moore and Michigan, and it puts the Wolverines right back in the playoff and Big Ten title conversation for 2025.Secunderabad RPF Arrests Two Ganja Peddlers, Seizes 10 Kg
