This week, Clark was named Time magazine’s athlete of the year, and in her feature interview, she gave a shoutout to the Black ballers who paved the way for her. She said : I want to say I’ve earned every single thing, but as a white person, there is privilege. A lot of those players in the league that have been really good have been Black players. This league has kind of been built on them. The more we can appreciate that, highlight that, talk about that, and then continue to have brands and companies invest in those players that have made this league incredible, I think it’s very important. I have to continue to try to change that. The more we can elevate Black women, that’s going to be a beautiful thing. No notes from me. This was a powerful example of how to use white privilege to lift up marginalized Black people. Clark even name-checked some of the trailblazing Black players she was talking about: Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoopes, Cynthia Cooper, Dawn Staley and Maya Moore. Residents near a bushfire that has burned through nearly 44,000 hectares in Victoria’s west have been given the opportunity to return home briefly to collects presents. Country Fire Authority chief officer Jason Heffernan appeared on Sunrise on Tuesday morning where he revealed the heartwarming move. “(This is) to ensure if the residents of Halls Gap will be relocated for Christmas, at least they will have what they need.” A CFA spokesman confirmed residents and business owners would be allowed to return to Halls Gap between 10am and 12pm on Tuesday to collect essential items and secure their properties. However, he emphasised residents would not be asked to leave via a door knock or notification. “There’s a continued fire risk, everyone must be gone by 12pm,” the spokesman said. “There will not be a door knock or notification for people to leave. “Access to Halls Gap will be via the junction of Grampians Rd and Ararat Halls Gap Rd.” People will need to provide proof of residence, such as a drivers license, as Victoria Police will be there to check IDs.
